Performance-Lecture
In 1 – 2 pm, New York- based artist Gordon Hall engages the sculptures in Scott Burton: Shape Shift and the museum’s architecture, transforming the space into a dynamic stage. This lecture-performance shifts the audience’s focus through a blend of text, projection, and movement, exploring the often-overlooked experience of waiting—a state where time becomes palpable through inactivity. Situated somewhere between an academic lecture and a dance, Hall engages Burton’s practice and legacy, highlighting the potential of focusing on passive objects of support. Through their concept of the “politics of the chair,” Hall reveals waiting as a space filled with the pains and pleasures of interdependence.
Organized in conjunction with Scott Burton: Shapeshift, Pulitzer Arts Foundation, St. Louis, MO, 2024.
Re-presented at Torrington Project with works by Maria Hassabi, Nick Mauss, Alvin Baltrop, Tom Burr, Ull Hohn.
